Everyone who uses a vehicle on the road must keep it in a roadworthy condition.

The mot test was first introduced in 1960 for car's over 10 years old, it was amended in 1967 to include any car's over three years old. The test checks that vehicles meet road safety and environmental standards.

It is a legal requirement for all cars and vehicles over 3 years old, to have a valid mot certificate. If your car does not have an mot then it is classed as none road worthy and you will not be able to get either road tax or insurance.
