Your clutch is an essential part of your car that enables you the change gear.

Whilst your foot it not on the clutch, springs in the pressure plate push it against the friction plate, which is also pushed against the flywheel. This action locks the engine to the transmission shaft, causing them to rotate at the same speed. When you press down on the clutch pedal, the pressure plate releases the friction plate, allowing you to change gear. Whilst driving around this action is repeated constantly and eventually the clutch will wear down and need to be replaced.
